Treatment of Mild Cognitive Impairment
Bae Hee-Joon

Abstract
Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is a recently described syndrome that is currently thought of as a transition phase between healthy cognitive aging and dementia. At the moment, many treatment strategies for Alzheimer¡¯s disease were extrapolated to interventional strategies in MCI. Most investigators believe that by the time the clinical diagnosis of Alzheimer¡¯s disease is made, sufficient neuronal damage has taken place in the brain to make reversal of the condition unlikely. Therefore, it is a more effective strategy to treat patients in preclinical stage of Alzheimer¡¯s disease, such as MCI, than to treat in its advanced stage. This article reviews currently available symptomatic treatments and visionary treatments for Alzheimer¡¯s disease and MCI. A number of clinical trials for MCI, which are ongoing at now, are discussed.
